so because of some known issues with amd processors cool'n'quiet not being able to operate correctly when processors are pegged at 100% my guildwars runs really crappy. If however i turn cool'n'quiet off my processor runs extremle hot and begins to overheat. Thus my only option is to buy a better heatsink and disable cool'n'quiet.

I didnt really have a question i just needed a place to bitch about my problem

i install AMD 64's at work, so this info will be very usefull.
are you using the OEM or retail box processor, though?
my machine dosent have the cool'n'quiet added, but i bought the retail pack of the 3200 and baby runs fine.
though cause i put my back fan in backwards, she sucks air in rather than blowing air out, but i fixed that with a desktop fan beside my case. i admit, i turn it on when i play games, but my last prosessor died from heat-death

so i try to keep my baby as cool as i can from a paranoia standpoint ^^
most of the heat i get is actually from my psu.

have you seen the thermaltake Beetle fan yet? bloody great huge thing! that you can attach another fan to the back of, and we sold two to a guy. he says his machine is running so cool, he could keep his drinks cold inside the box ^^

It's an alienware but the fan on it looks OEM they didn't give me anything fancy :/ and hence the reason im having problems although i do like their customer support but i think ill build my own next time.

yeah, i had some friends suggest some im going to look at em when i get some money in the mean time im just going to run it with cool'n'quiet and bear this cruddy performance.

I fiited a Thermalright XP90c heatsink and a Vastec Tornado 92mm fan. My 3700 San Diego runs at 32*c idle and 40*c full load, which for a SD on air isn't that bad. Cool'n'Quiet is turned off aswell, that program is simply gay.

The stock heatsinks should keep the processor nicely cooled, even with GW running it at 100% for hours.

Open the case of your comp and check these things:

1. Look for dust clogging the CPU heatsink or fan unit (if so, clean it)
2. Run the computer at 100% for a little while, and then touch the CPU heatsink - not hot? - then it's time to get a better thermal paste.
3. What are the motherboard temperatures when you know the CPU is running hot? It's possible that the case simply isn't getting enough cool air through it.

If you decide to replace the thermal paste, note that the old paste may glue the processor to the heatsink. You should run the computer at 100% for a while to soften the paste, then pull the heatsink off. I didn't do this last time I changed my processor and was suprised that I pulled the CPU with the heatsink.

Incidentally, I'm going to change my heatsink to the Zalman 7700 Cu/Al unit because I like it quiet.
